Getting Prepared With a Liberal Education Throughout high school I had to taken several courses I felt wasted my time. I had to take two years of foreign language that I thought for sure I was never going to speak; I took sciences including, Introduction to Physics and an earth science. These courses were requirements to graduate and to prepare me for similar college courses if I were required to take any. Senior year I was fed up with taking �unnecessary� courses that did not pertain to my major that I plan in college. Now as a freshman in college I realize taking a history class or two, science, and a foreign language did pertained to my major after all. Building on the skills I learned from taking them I will be skilled in a profession, and I will also be educated in the background of that profession. With this being said, according to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the study of liberal arts such as language, philosophy, history, literature, or abstract science in a college or university is intended to provide general and intellectual knowledge.
