Causes of the American Revolution The Great War in which England fought against France from 1756 to 1763 was what originally precipitated the American Revolution. This war forced Parliament to establish several new taxes or Acts such as the Tea Act, the Sugar Act, the Townshend Act, the Stamp Act, all of which were created to raise money to cover the war�s expense. However, of all the established Acts, the Stamp Act was protested the most by American colonies. This particular tax was completely unrelated to trade and was seen by the American colonists as an attempt by the British to govern the colonies directly. The colonies demanded that they could not be subjected to laws and taxation without representation. Besides the burden of these new taxes the American colonies were also deprived of their common law right to a trial by jury. The Americans felt that they were not represented in parliament and therefore parliament�s power over the American colonies was limited, and Americans considered this unconstitutional.
