Greek civilization thrived from the 3rd millennium to the 1st century B.C., noted for its advances in philosophy, government, science, and, of course, art and architecture. The Greeks created hundreds of vase types, but most modern scholars have compiled them into smaller sub- group. The Amphora and Stamos were used primarily for storing and transporting wine and food. The Krater and Psykter were used for the mixing and cooling of wine. The Kantharos, Kylix, and Oinochoe were used for the pouring and drinking of water or wine. The Hydria, Loutrophoros, and Lebes Gamikos were used for drawing water. The Pyxis and Lekythos were used for as containers for cosemetics. And the Aryballos and Alabastron were used in athletics as containers for oil. There are essentially seven types of temples, all of which served the same basic purpose: to provide a �home� for the gods. The simplest form of greek temple is the Temple in antis, in which the naos is preceded by a pronaos flanked by forward projections of its side walls.
