Malcolm Little was born in Omaha, Nebraska and rapidly realized he was in the middle of racial tension. His father, Reverend Earl Little, was a Baptist minister and a leader of Marcus Garvey’s U.N.I.A (Universal Negro Improvement Agency). Malcolm would accompany his father to clandestine U.N.I.A meetings and from an early age became well aware of the segregation between white and blacks.
As soon as Malcolm grew older he had the desire to move away from the country life of the central United States and move towards the bustling city life. Malcolm moved to Boston to live with his free willed sister Ella whom he had always looked up to. For the next couple of years Malcolm became a hustler on the streets of the big city’s ghetto. Malcolm got involved in gambling, drug running, prostitution, robbery, and many other things. Malcolm thought everything was going smooth until he got caught during a bad heist and was sentenced to a long term at the penitentiary.
