Lady Liberty, a gift from France, a statue that represents strength, courage and tenacity. Mother to the United States, she stands alone, yet has withstood the challenging times of rough terrain, and continues to stand strong till this day. Many of the qualities found within Lady Liberty can also be found within the women of the Westward Journey. They represent virtuosity; strong on the outside, sweet on the inside; mother to children; at times misunderstood and lonely, yet always a figure of peace, hope and dreams. These are the women of the Westward Journey. The first priority in a woman’s life was her children and husband. These ladies did everything in their powers to cherish and preserve family life. Between the years of 1840 and 1870, several thousands of Americans’s attempted to migrate into Oregon and California in pursuit of the free land and Gold. Many stories have been told about the Westward Journey, focusing on the confrontations with Indians and the daily grinds of life, however, few take into account the vicissitude faced by the Women who unwillingly left to travel on ......
