In the play Julius Caesar the expositions has fulfilled its purpose by the setting, characters, theme and the elements of the plot.
Within Act one the setting was on the streets where the responder saw the development of the characters and the plot of the play. The setting creates the tension and atmosphere for the plot where the symbolism of certain event occurs. In Act one Scene three, the setting was on a street at night where night fall symbolises mystery and disaster. This representation was displayed by the stage directions “Thunder and lightning”. The omens followed as the characters speak “Like twenty torches joined, and yet his hand, not sensible of fire, remained unscorched” [Casca].
