Peter The Great was born may 30th 1672 and at that time nobody knew that one of the greatest rulers of Russia had just been brought into the world. Peter became ruler of Russia in 1682 but ruled with his brother Ivan. In 1696 Ivan died and Peter was officially declared Sovereign of all Russia. Peter was determined to bring his country into the modern ages of his time and compete with the rest of Europe in all aspects of life. Peter can be considered a renaissance man for bringing about the change and rebirth of his country in intellectual aspects, artistic aspects, and the ways that he westernized Russia. Peter wanted his people to succeed intellectually and become smart so that his country could flourish. He did this in a number of ways that show he cared about his people. Peter needed ideas from other places since there was nothing in Russia that could help him at that time. He traveled to different countries in Russia borrowing traditions and things that could help his country blend in with others and really compete.
