In this essay I will analysis the shared theme in two different stories, “The Birthmark” by Nathaniel Hawthorne and “The Blue Eyes” by Isak Dinesen. The similar theme is that some objects can have a power over people’s lives, whether we give them the power or not. In “The Birthmark” Georgiana is a very beautiful woman who loved her husband dearly. She was beautiful with the exception of one flaw, her birthmark. A single mark on her left cheek. Her husband Aylmer, who is a devoted scientist becomes obsessed with the imperfection and needs to remove it, to be happy with his wife. After several attempts Aylmer had made a potion for Georgiana that results in the disappearance of the birthmark and the death of Aylmer's experimental subject. In this story Aylmer gave the birthmark the powers that toke over his love for Georgiana. He became obsessed with the birthmark. It was more important for Georgiana to have outer beauty than to acknowledge the inner beauty that Georgiana already had. In “The Blue Eyes” the skipper named his ship after his wife. The ship had a figure-head......
