Lead of the Rabbit-Proof Fence Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Rabbit-Proof Fence was released in 2002 and is a true story based on the book Follow The Rabbit-Proof Fence, by Doris Pilkington. It is a dramatic movie of emotion, education and determination. The film explores the discourses of racism, education, family, faith and power, with racism being the dominant discourse. In 1931, Western Australia, the official policy of the government, as determined by the Chief Protector of the aborigines Mr. A. O. Neville (Kenneth Branagh), is that all half-caste aboriginal children were to be taken from their families and raised in orphanages where they could be civilized with the intention of marrying them to other light skinned people or grooming them to be domestic servants. To Neville and those like him, this policy of separating a child from her family did not seem cruel or inhuman. The most powerful invited reading suggests to the viewers that the Australian Government and white people genuinely believed that, in the aboriginals case, the lighter skin colour, more intellectual will be.
