Mark Goldblatt�s short story �We�re Hard-Wired to Stereotype�, is just what the title would lead you to believe it is about. How in today�s society all kinds of situations, personal experiences and media reports effect peoples reactions when encountered with people of certain ethnic backgrounds. His argument is effective in the way that he takes an everyday occurrence, that most people have experienced, and does not make you feel guilty for having those feelings. He leads the reader to believe that even though it is unfair for the people of black, Arab or Hispanic descent to be stereotyped; it is not unjust or unfounded. The tone of his essay is that for us to feel suspicious toward people of certain ethnic background is justified. �Inferring is a survival mechanism wired into the brain that compels us to make snap judgments.� People are quick to judge and this reflex does not come with an off switch.
