Keith Haring, born in 1958 and died in 1990, was a young New York artist who aspired to be an influential figure in his time. His art developed from smaller sub-way drawings to gigantic murals done on historical landmarks like the Berlin Wall. Such transition to being a popular American artist meant that he was able to “provoke imagination” and also present his views on world issues like Aids, nuclear power, unsafe sex and racism. Thus Haring achieved his dreams of using his art as a medium to educate and influence people even though he died at such a young age of 31.
Although Haring’s style and figures are unique and lack visual resemblance to any other artist, his works are similar to those of Andy Warhol in terms of meanings of an artwork. For example, the two American artists share the same opinion about the media and its power over the world and demonstrate this in their artworks.
