The Outsiders� Inside Issues �The Outsiders� by S.E. Hinton was written in the 1950s and 1960s time period in a city divided by the amount of money a person has. The two sides of society in town were the Socs, or the richer part of town, and the Greasers, the poor hoods. The story is about a young boy named Ponyboy and the gang he hangs out with every day. He lives with his two older brothers Darry and Sodapop; his best friend is Johnny. Ponyboy is not like the others in the gang; he is smart in school and enjoys sentimental things like sunsets. Ponyboy and Johnny are the two youngest of the gang; Ponyboy is fourteen and Johnny is sixteen. Being as young as they are the two are afraid of the Socs because all they do is jump Greasers and beat them up. Until one day when Ponyboy was being hustled by a group of Socs that Johnny had had enough and stabbed one and killed him. The two went to a member of the gang, Dally Winston, a tough guy, hard as nails, to help them get out of town. They stayed in an old abandoned church out in the country for a week until the media died down......
