Ghost Dances Unity is achieved within a work when all elements relate back to the intention (what the work is about). Christopher Bruce the choreographer of ghost dances achieved this using motifs carried throughout the dance, phrases, choreographic forms, the music ,set design as well as costumes. The ghost dance is based on the civil war in Chille and how the war affected different people, each group/section of the dance represents a fraction of society and how the war destroyed their lives. Motifs/key movements that relate to what the dance is about are used throughout the dances and are then modified and extended to help create unity. An example of one of the motifs which is used throughout nearly every section starts with feet in parallel with arms swung forward as if they are reaching or searching for something, it is then extended to a travelling movement with a triple run, arms swinging back and fourth to express sorrow or sadness. The choreographic form of the dance helps create unity not only the choreography but the way the dance is put together and the placeme......
