After the First World War in which the USA and Russia had fought on opposing sides the Russian revolution of 1917 encouraged America�s negative attitude towards the nation to become more a feeling of recognition. However this was short lived as the Bolshevik uprising began and an anticapitalist world revolution rang out from the new Communist type government that had come to power in Russia. The Marxist sympathisers prompted the American President Woodrow Wilson to adapt several new policies to abolish or at least contain the anticapitalist force building up in Eastern Europe. These included most notably nonrecognition, economic blockades, aid to non-Bolshevik forces and military intervention (as seen in Northern Russia and Siberia). During the early 1920�s America was still providing aid to the desperate areas of Russia although the USA was at the same time continually becoming disapproving to the communistic ways that were being exercised in Russia as well as seeing none of the $600 million they were owed by the nation.
