CLUB DRUGS There are many club drugs floating around today. Also known as “rave” drugs, these have become extremely popular with teens and young adults today. Such drugs include MDMA, Ecstasy, Rohypnol, GHB and ketamine. Part stimulant and part psychedelic, MDMA is most commonly used because it allows partiers to keep dancing and be active for extended periods of time. While it is most commonly found in tablet form, they can also be crushed and snorted or injected.1 Rohypnol is tasteless, odorless, and is used along with GHB to sedate and intoxicate unsuspecting females in the commission of sexual assaults. 2 GHB is also used by weight lifters for its so-called anabolic effects. 3 Ketamine, an animal tranquilizer, became a popular drug in the 1980s, when it was found that if taken in large enough doses, produces PCP like effects, such as dream-like states and hallucinations. 4 Ketamine can be injected, dissolved in drinks, or smoked. According to the 2002 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, an estimated 10.2 million Americans 12 or older tried MDMA at least onc......
