Booker T. Washington Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

At Tuskegee, Washington had a hard time getting started. First he had to find a place to build, and then find a way to get money for the school. He had encounters with people who were unwisely using their money. Also those that lived under very poor conditions. Booker T. Washington went to Tuskegee in 1881, because he was recommended to teach at the school. One of the first things he noticed when he got there, was that there were many Blacks. He saw that there were more of the Black race in the town than the Whites. Soon he found that that was to be called a "Black Belt". In the book it says the term "Black belt" was used as "to designate the counties where the Black people outnumbered the white". As I said, Washington had come to Tuskegee to teach. When he arrived he was expecting to see everything ready for him to begin. It was a surprise to him when he found that the school had not even been built. He searched for a place where they could begin to build the school. While traveling and trying to get the news out about the school, he stayed with different families. At these people......
