Essay Writing “Dracula is nothing more than a simple Gothic horror story.” Dracula is far more than just a simple Gothic horror story. A close reading not only provides the audience with some traditional elements of the Gothic genre, for example supernatural themes, medieval settings, and mysterious events, but it also offers insight into a several ideas, themes, and issues on the time period in which it was written. These vary from cultural anxieties to reading perspectives of feminism or Marxism. Considering these aspects of Dracula, we can establish that Dracula is unquestionably far more than a simple Gothic horror story. Dracula, written by Bram Stoker, is considered the “king” of all Gothic novels. One of the main reasons why it has become a timeless classic is that it expresses the traditional gothic conventions that we are so familiar with. Gothic novels generally focus on a medieval setting, mystery and horror, themes of isolation and ambiguousity and supernatural occurrences.
