Within this essay I am going to look at George Ritzer�s work. Although already known to many in Sociology for his work in Social Theory, George Ritzer has become known to many since the original publication of The Mcdonaldization of Society. The creation of the McDonald restaurants originally involved scientific management and Fordism to the product of a simple range of edible items such as the hamburger. The extension of these principles has given rise to rationalisation in the service industries such as McDentists, McDoctors and even �junk-food journalism� which is the standardisation of the news for easy consumption. (Abercrombie et alia, 1994) I will look at how Ritzer puts forward his theory, where his influences came from and what impact Ritzer�s work has made on sociological thinking. I believe that after reading Ritzer�s book on The McDonaldization of Society that his work is very relevant to today�s society, particularly when looking at how employees of these corporations have to perform when working and how companies are basing their codes and practices on highly successful......
