NanoTransfer Printing Motivation The relentless advance of microelectronics is continuously pushing the physical limits of conventional microfabrication processes. This has fuelled research into a number of new and alternative fabrication methodologies. One such field of study is soft lithography, wherein patterns are transferred between malleable stamps and hard substrates by contact alone (as opposed to traditional lithographic pattern transfer techniques). Soft lithography branches of into different approaches, each distinct from the next through process detail differences. One such approach is known as nano-transfer printing (nTP), and involves inking the soft stamp and simply applying it to the substrate to lay down the desired pattern. The ink adsorbs onto the substrate only where there is direct contact, due to specially engineered interfacial reactions. The simplicity of nTP is its greatest advantage when compared to conventional patterning techniques.
