THE DIAGNOSIS OF PREGNANCY -pregnancy is diagnosed on the basis of the symptoms report by a woman and signs elicited by the health care provider. These signs and symptoms are traditionally divided into three classifications: presumptive, probable, and positive. I. Presumptive sign of pregnancy: - are those that are least indicative of pregnancy, taken as single entities, they could easily indicate other conditions, these are largely subjective in that they are experience by the woman but cannot be documented by the examiner. Ex; amenorrhea, breast changes, chadwick�s sign , fatigue, frequent micturation, linea negra, melasma, nausea and vomiting, quickening, strae gravidarum. II. Probable sign of pregnancy - can be documented by the examiner although they are more reliable then the presumptive signs of pregnancy, they still are not positive or true diagnostic findings. Ex: ballottement, Braxton hicks sign, fatal outline, goodell�s sign, hegar�s sign, serum laboratory test, sonographic evidence of gestational sac. III.
