Immigration The Merriam-Webster�s Collegiate Dictionary define immigrant as �a person who comes to a country to take up permanent residence� (621). In our country today, the subject of immigration has exploded. The border area is not only a portal for illegal immigrants but possible terrorists as well. The inability of the border patrol to secure this area has heightened the awareness of this weakness in the United States National Security and Homeland Defense Programs. However many liberal groups see this as an opportunity to exploit the government and force legislation to allow an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants to not only remain in the U.S. but make them legal citizens. Enacting immigration legislation of some form or another is necessary to start curbing the problem of illegal immigration into the United States. Many immigrants from all over the world legally enter the United States every year. To work and go to school here and perhaps become a permanent citizen.
