�Hemingway�s writing, like the iceberg he famously refers to, is cold, distant and ultimately lacks all feeling.� To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Hemingway�s style is journalistic and mostly factual, that is why many critics and readers believe that his writing is cold, distant and even lacks of all feeling. His writing has also been compared to an iceberg, in other words only one-third of the actual feelings and story is revealed. At first reading his stories do seem distant and the purpose they have been written for is not quite sure; but if closely analyzed we can see that what Hemingway is actually trying to do is to create a real life situation with real people as characters- this is in fact his main aim as an author: to make his characters credible.
