More then a Storm In the week of August 23, 2005, the population of New Orleans decreased by half. The cause of such a drastic loss was the cause and effect of a hurricane, hurricane Katrina. A hurricane is a tropical storm with winds at seventy-four miles per hour or higher constantly. A hurricane involves these three things: the origin of the hurricane, the stages of development of the hurricane, and the damage of the hurricane, this is what is going to be discussed in this paper(Lerner 1). First, the origin of a hurricane, the origin is the place or point from which something occurs. For a hurricane to develop it has to be over large tropical ocean waters and the water surface temperature has to be at least twenty-seven degrees Celsius. There must also be high relative humidity in the lower and middle troposphere, this high humidity reduces the amount of evaporation in the clouds and maximizes the latent heat released, because there is more precipitation.
