The poems of Cavafy are organized into three genres; philosophical poems, historical poems and erotic poems. This method of categorizing was created by Cavafy himself, and his work was found perfectly filed in this manner and ready for publication upon his death. This allowed his work to become almost instantly famous following his death, on a level that he had never come close to in life. His philosophical poetry can be traced back to elements of his life such as the contrasts of his youth, as well as his later struggles of a love-hate relationship with his hometown of Alexandria. His historical poems are particularly interesting due to the presence of meticulous truth to history in their content, and how they contain classical Greek stories and concepts that are presented in an appealingly contemporary way. His erotic poems, which were a factor in preventing the publication of his work on a large scale prior to his death, were often concerned with material of a homosexual nature, which was very much reflective of Cavafy�s own sexual orientation and how this was perceived within his......
