The question of what makes us human has fascinated people for many years. In the beginning people believed in mythical forces as making as who we are, but after the dark ages social scientists have made great progress in what makes up who we are. Psychologists like Erik Erikson, and Sigmund Freud were the first to give an understanding of the effects of what not fulfilling a stage in your life could contribute to the overall person that you become. With paradigms like the functionalist theory, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionism we are able to understand how society works and brings out the out comes that it does. Finally by reading this chapter I was able to understand why I do the things I do. In society we are shaped by three main social paradigms. These paradigms are especially important when it comes to the impacts of society on human developments. The three paradigms are Functionalist theory, the Conflict theory and Symbolic Interaction.
