Censoring the ACLU The American Civil Liberties Union is very well known for defending the first amendment for the public. Their whole mission is to allow anyone in America the ability to speak their mind, no matter how controversial the subject. An editorial written by the Miami Herald staff has addressed the subject of censoring members of the ACLU. The article �Betraying Principles� is well written because it offers a familiar controversy, it is organized, and it invokes a sense of patriotism. The ACLU has defended the right to free speech for eighty- six years. The group defends everyone�s right from the extreme left to the extreme right of the spectrum of ideas, thoughts, and actions. The subject of what can and cannot be thought, said, or acted upon by the American public has been a controversy that everyone is familiar with.
