A Separate Peace Certain events often shape the fate of others, such as those seen between the friends Gene, Finny, and Leper. Sometimes fate is set by the persons themselves whether it be by paranoia, jealousy or other causes. While reading one will understand that fate is shaped both by the mental and physical states of body. Gene�s fate changed at the climax of the book when helped the fall of Finny off of the tree branch; this act unleashed Gene�s darker side and steers their relationship in a different direction so that the codependency rather than envy characterizes it. The scene right after the fall of Finny Genes evolution begins. Gene goes into his room alone and trys on Finny�s clothes he looks in the mirror and sees himself looking exactly like Finny. From here and after Gene and Finny co-depend on each other for psychological support. Gene plays sports only because Finny cannot and allowing Finny to train him to be a better athlete that Finny himself could not be. This physical training is an avenue for Finny to live through Gene. Gene welcomes this attempt......
