Wuthering Heights - Heathcliff Analysis Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
The gothic novel Wuthering Heights written by Emily Bronte in 1847, takes place in two neighboring houses on the Yorkshire moors—Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange. The plot is very complex, involving many conflicts and even turns of fortune. It begins with Mr. Earnshaw, the original owner of Wuthering Heights, brining back the dark and mysterious orphan Heathcliff from Liverpool. The story later reveals that Heathcliff, a ferocious, and often barbarous man, has a vigorous thirst for acceptance and power meanwhile he could care less for either his religious faith or physical appearance.
To begin with, Heathcliff has fallen into an extreme, seemingly unshakeable love with Catherine, Mr. Earnshaw’s daughter. After Mr. Earnshaw dies, his loathsome son Hindley begins to abuse Heathcliff and forces him to be a servant. Catherine soon marries Edgar Linton instead of Heathcliff because of her urge to be wealthy. Heathcliff’s anguish and agony quickly sends him to spend almost the rest of his life seeking revenge on his once beloved Catherine, Hindley, Hareton and young Catherine......
