Lord Of The Flies Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In the novel "Lord of the Flies", William Golding uses many objects to symbolize a hidden meaning. A plane crashes, and a group of choirboys are stranded on a deserted island. Little did they know, this "upper class" group of choir boys would become lowly savages. A inhuman feeling would come over them and would cause them to act in savage ways. Golding continually shows the difference between two human inner feelings: good and evil. Ralph and Piggy seem to be the only two to obtain their goodness throughout this novel. The other boys are overwhelmed by the atmosphere and other things and cannot control their inner evil. Throughout this novel, the conch shell that was found, is used as a symbol of authority. "I got the conch," said Piggy in a hurt voice. "I got the right to speak." (44). Piggy is the one in the group who is always picked on, so the conch shell holds great importance to him when he holds it. Although he holds the conch, Piggy is almost always ignored by the other boys. As the boys start to fall more into the savagry that has come over them, the conch shell slowly......
