�The Yellow Wallpaper�, written in 1892 by Charlotte Gilman, is about a woman who has a nervous disorder. When I read this story, I interpreted a different meaning. I believe it is about women�s rights. At the time the story was written women were demanding equal rights. A line in the play states �� It Becomes Bars! The outside pattern, I mean, and the woman behind it is as plain as can be.�(762). To me, this line stands for women feeling like prisoners because they have on rights. Imagine having no rights that will make anyone feel like a prisoner. The story later says �The woman behind shakes it!� (764). It refers to the bars. Her shaking the bars makes me think that this is a symbol of a woman that no longer wants to live life as a prisoner. The story goes on to say �I think there are a great many women behind, and sometimes only one.�(764). The other women want to join her but are scared of the consequences, When she said �sometimes only one�, the one is the woman who starts the fight for women�s rights. �I think that woman gets out�� (764).
