Jeanne d�Arc was born at Domremy in Champagne on what researchers believe to be the 6th of January in 1412.Jaques d�Arc, the father of Jeanne d�Arc was a poor, peasant father who was under the rule of the Duke of Burgandy. Jeanne was the youngest of five children and was never blessed with the skills of reading and writing (as it was in the lower sectors of the fifteenth century French caste system). The skill she acquired were not particularly unusual for a girl of her age and social status, spinning and sewing alone in the her father�s pastures is where Jeanne d�Arc is believed to have spent the majority of her time (these facts remain unproven, but they do paint a pretty saintly picture). In every recorded instance, Jeanne d�Arc is said to be an �singularly pious child� who spent most of her time in prayer, intelligent beyond her years. She is said to have spent hours in prayer and, in her early years, was seen joyously celebrating around Our Lady�s statue but, by the time she was twelve, she was said to have found herself aloof of such practices.
