The 1700’s were a period of exchanging of goods. Trade by sea and by land was taking place all over the world. Trading consisted of textile, goods and slaves. The Interesting Narrative of the life of Olaudah Equiano discusses slave trade and the trading of goods all over the world.
For Olaudah he experienced trading first hand at the age of eleven. He was kidnapped and then sold to a gold smith. Later he was sold again to Pascal who renamed him Gustavous Vassa. To me trading slaves was the most popular type of trade at the time. It seems like every time goods were exchanged, so were slaves. Through out the whole book it discussed trading among different people. They traded anything and everything possible. It could be a slave to a specific kind of nut.
The Atlantic economy started out with African women selling their goods in local markets. This is a way for them to support themselves. Theses women traded woven baskets, perfumes, dye for iron pots, and European cloths. These women sold and traded their goods while being slaves.
