The harsh tone and bitter words in which Jonathan Edwards used to deliver his speech to the congregation of a church helped him get his message across superbly, and without those two factors I do not believe that his speech would have been as effective or effective at all. Jonathan Edwards used such a severe tone when giving his speech that no matter what he would have told the people it would have been taken to the heart. When he gave his speech he succeeded in putting the fear of God into the non-believers, and even those who did believe. In Edwards� speech he repeatedly emphasizes the power of God to the congregation. This is a huge factor in helping him get his point across because it scares the people and gets them to pay attention to what he is saying. When he is telling the people of God�s great powers, he portrays him as someone waiting to destroy humanity out of spite. This was his main idea throughout his whole speech, and is what he used to scare the people.
