In the movie, it did not specify on how many people died on the way to Jamestown only that Thomas went over board. All records say is that in 1609, during the “starving time” only 60 of the original 214 settlers at Jamestown survived. John Smith was working for the Virginia Company when sent on the voyage. The colonist sailed on the Susan Constant in the movie, but in real life they actually sailed on three different ships known as the Susan Constant, Godspeed, and Discovery. As soon as they landed in the new world John Smith started to scout around in the movie, well records tell otherwise. John Smith was arrested and clapped in irons during the voyage, and was not released until a month after the landing at Jamestown. After that, he did a lot of exploring and trading. He made maps for the area. So in turn he could not have saved any lives on the ship, because he was a prisoner so that part of the story is not true. Pocahontas wasn’t the real name for the Indian girl which we speak of. Her true name was Matoaka. “Pocahontas” was her childhood nickname. Translated as “little wa......
