The Supreme Court, you see, considers burning the American Flag an act which is protected by the First Amendment right to free speech. (Esquilax.com) Senator Ted Kennedy stated, �The words of the first amendment are simple and majestic: �Congress shall make no law abridging freedom of speech� The proposed constitutional amendment would undermine that fundamental liberty.� (Esquilax.com) This is absolutely ridiculous, and very insulting. To disrespect the flag is to insult all of the people who have died and fought to make the United States the place it is today. In order to have the privilege to live in America, people should respect it and appreciate how hard people have worked to give rights to everyone who lives here. Some people do choose to burn the flag. This is a controversial topic because some people, like myself, are offended by the action. Numerous states and congress have tried to ban it on the grounds that it is not speech at all, and that it is conduct.
