My name is Thomas Chartrand. I was born on March 22, 1982 to Louise Chartrand in Hamilton, Ontario. In this essay I will give the background of the Chartrand genealogy, and history in Canada. Chartrands are everywhere in North America. We have all kinds of trades and professions. There are thousands of us, who speak different languages, practice many different religions, but one fact distinguishes us from the rest of the world- we are all probably the descendants of Thomas Chartran, who arrived in America in the middle of the 17th century. Other Chartrands have tried to establish the link between us all, and have tried to build the family tree of all the descendants of Thomas Chartran. Although many of us are now sharing data, genealogical work, and sharing our stories of the family, special recognition must be given to Robert Chartrand, who did much of the groundwork in this research for 35 years.
