St. Patrick The Patron Saint of Ireland Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

St. Patrick underwent many hardships in his life, beginning at the age of sixteen, after being kidnapped by Irish pirates and brought to Ireland working as a shepherd. St. Patrick was born in 386 A.D. along the west coast of Great Britain. His father, Calpurnius, was a deacon and minor local official and his grandfather was a priest. In St. Patrick’s era, the great and powerful Roman Empire fell in the western part of Europe, which opened opportunities for the Church to step into the affairs. Many historians claim that St. Patrick single-handedly spread Christianity through Ireland. Many people know St. Patrick only as the patron saint of Ireland, but he also completed many remarkable tasks. He not only taught the Irish about Christianity, but also wrote several books, including Confessio, which was an autobiography that explains the many events that occurred during his spiritual journey. In the early fifth century, St. Patrick traveled throughout Ireland teaching the people about Christianity, making him the most influential religious figure ever to walk the lands of Ireland.
