Citizen Kane is considered by many critics and film scholars to be the �best movie.� It is an outrageous claim that there can be a single best movie, but if there is one, Citizen Kane is definitely in the running. It is also considered by many to be on par with, if not better than, Casablanca. It was recently voted as the #one movie by AFI. �Voted the number one movie was CITIZEN KANE, Orson Welles' 1941 classic, which he directed, produced, wrote and starred in at the age of 25.� (www.afi.com). Welles had recently achieved a level of notoriety related to the War of the Worlds radio broadcast in which Welles and his troop of actors caused widespread panic across the states. Many thought the radio broadcast of invading aliens was true partly because Welles created many special sound effects and techniques that were not heard over the radio before. (Naremore 42).
