1 Ladies and Gentlemen: Athens should be the last Olympics! I would like to begin by quoting the Olympic oath. 2 In the name of all competitors, I promise that we shall take part in these Olympic Games, respecting and abiding by the rules that govern them, in the true spirit of sportsmanship, for the glory of sport and honour of our teams. 3 Tonight I will be discussing the reasons the Olympic Games as we know them should cease after the Games in Athens. The Olympic Oath has very little relevance today. Respect for the rules has been discarded by competitors, judges and IOC officials. 4 The glory of the sport has been tainted by cheating and corruption. The promise of cooperation between nations and the spirit of sportsmanship has not been met as many modern era Olympics have been disrupted by political agendas 5 The promise to respect and abide by the Olympic rules is, in many instances not kept.
