Globalization and its Five Wars The five wars of globalization regard illegal trade in drugs, arms, intellectual property, people, and money. The lucrative nature of these trades ensures its proliferation and growth. While police officers, lawyers and judges may effectively combat smaller illegal operations, the wars of globalization require different strategies. Unfortunately, available evidence shows that we are losing this war. Drugs have destroyed lives and families dating back to Egyptian times when beer and wine was abused. Everyday we read about a new drug bust in the newspapers. We see people in hospitals from overdosing and more crimes committed under the influence of drug abuse. The numbers are increasing at a steadfast rate. In 1999 �The United Nations� �Human Development Report� calculated the annual trade in illicit drugs at $400 billion.� roughly 8 percent of all global trade.
