Everyone has heard some type of rock ‘n’ roll music but very few know the true history of how rock ‘n’ roll began or the conflicts of the new genre. Is it really devil worshipping music? First of all, what is rock ‘n’ roll? Rock ‘n’ roll is a type of music genre connected to many sub-genres. It emerged as a defined musical style in the Southern U.S. in the 1950s, and quickly spread to the rest of the country, and the world (Wikipedia). The main instruments used for rock music are: electric guitars, bass guitars, drums, and sometimes the piano, keyboard, or key tar. Rock can be both amateur and professional, innocent and slick, subtle and cross, sincere and contrived, smart and stupid (Romanowski). What does rock ‘n’ roll mean? According to Charlie Gillett, in his seminal book on the early years of rock and roll, “The Sound of The City,” the term had already been used in blues songs to refer to sexual intercourse and dancing (Egendor 12).
