Nascar, there�s more to it than you think. Four tires, 22 gallons of fuel, seven men, and 13-14 seconds. These are the numbers comprising a successful NASCAR Nextel Cup pit stop. The media might interview the driver in the winner's circle, but often it's the teamwork of his pit crew that gives him the winning edge. The actual pit crew is composed of individuals who service the car during a pit stop. The active pit crew is composed seven people. A Jackman, two tire changers, two tire carriers, a gasman, and a catch-can man. The Jackman jacks up the car so tires may be removed. He also gives the driver signal to go by dropping the car after service is complete. Tire changer number one changes the front right and left tires. Tire changer number two changes the right and left rear tires. Tire carriers carry two new tires to the front tire changer and the to the rear tire changer. The gasman empties two 11-gallon cans of fuel into the car. The catch-can man catches the overflow of fuel.
