Roots of Corruption in the Philippines As one of the major problem of the country, it is important to know what its roots are and what is the factor that pushes a person to be corrupt. It is important to know all of these in order to address the problem. First, we can trace it through the Filipino Values System. Filipinos tends to be so personal, thus this leads to extreme personalism. Filipinos most likely tends to attaché personal value in all things that he/she do. For an instance, a public official tends to hire in his office, people that is closely related to him ( a family member or a close friend may be). This is not a good thing for it hinders that entry of more qualified individuals for the job. Thus, those we called “ghost employees” are often those people related to the corrupt public officials. Next reason for corruption is the lack of adequate salaries/income being received by the public officials.
