Childhood Depression Most people consider childhood to be the happiest times of ones life. However, one in every thirty-three children will have some type of childhood depression. But, what is childhood depression? How do parents know when their child (ren) are depressed and what can they do about it? By doing many hours of research the write hopes to enlighten parents on what childhood depression is, what causes it, the signs and what parents can do to assist their children in getting the help needed. Childhood depression is a type of mental illness that affects children of all ages but becomes more prevalent during the adolescence stage. It impacts the way the child feels, think, and acts. If left untreated, depression can lead to failure in school, alcohol or drug abuse or even suicide. Depression is much more than sadness. It is the persistent experience of a sad or irritable mood along with the loss of interest or pleasure in nearly all activities. These feelings are usually accompanied by additional symptoms that affect the child’s appetite, sleep, activity level......
