Acid rain and its incidence in present world In the mid 1800s, many features of a series of acids falling from the atmosphere were discovered and detailed by the chemist and Britain�s First Alkali inspector, Robert Angus Smith. It was in 1872 when Smith published the book Air and Rain, which showed his studies of the chemistry of atmospheric precipitation. Twenty years later, Smith was the first to use the term acid rain. It is called "acid rain" because of the acidic concentration it has, compared to the range of acidity that rainwater usually has. It occurs when different kinds of substances and leftovers fuse with the ones present in the air and fall to the earth. Acid rain may affect the environment in various ways, as well as human beings can be directly influenced. It is possible to reduce acidic emissions but it is necessary that citizens and people change their minds and start being aware of an "unseen plague" that can cause great damage to the environmental balance. Acidic deposition, or acid rain as it is commonly known, happens when emissions of sulfur dioxide (SO2)......
