Homosexuality: Fear of Coming Out, Due to Gay Intolerance In today�s society, people are still judgmental about homosexuality. Why? Are they scared of them? Are they disgusted? I guess we will never know the true reason. Gays and lesbians are so afraid to still come out due to people and their gay intolerance. What is the big deal and why do they harass them and make fun. I don�t think they realize the danger it puts on the gay and lesbians. The pressure to keep it all inside or the mental abuse they take, even the beatings they take. What is so wrong with being gay? In my personal opinion, you can�t help who you love. Before the 1970�s, little was known about homosexuality. Until that point, homosexuality was considered socially unacceptable and often punishable by law; members of the gay and lesbian community were labeled as social deviants and perverts. In fact, it was not until 1973 that the American Psychiatric Association removed homosexuality from its official mental illnesses.
