Shakespeare’s Love Shakespeare has his own idea of what love is. He describes in this sonnet what love is not, and then fills it in with examples of what it actually is. This sonnet can be described as having three main points: the mental joining of individuals, the invulnerability of love, and his last words putting his reputation on the line. The first line “Let me not to the marriage of true minds,” the Shakespeare anguishes the thought that people would join without true love. The “marriage of true minds” does not represent an actual marriage, but more the bond of true love. The physical lust for a beloved’s body cannot describe this. Shakespeare offers that love is not just mere lusting for another’s body; love is in fact a higher brained romantic emotion. It is mental lust drives people together. The very obstacles that threaten couples can also bring a stronger bond between them by simply admitting their faults explained in “admit impediments.” True lovers will overcome all obstacles without hesitation. “Love is not love which alters when alteration finds,” indeed......
