The Notion of Anglo Saxon heroism differs from todays. During the time which Beowulf was written heroes were legends, myths. Today�s heroes are not mythical they are well documented people who accomplished very difficult tasks, or led a great amount of people to a better future, or influenced a generation of children to better there lives. Today�s definition of heroism varies among its people; it is difficult to compare a general concept to a specific hero of the 8th century. Beowulf is an Anglo Saxon eighth century poem about the Danish�s struggle with a daemon named Grendel and how a hero named Beowulf saves them from the tyrant and battles two other evil creatures. The story starts by telling of the lineage of Hrothgar, the first King of the Danes. Every night Grendel comes and kills men in their sleep in the great hall, this continues for years until finely Beowulf arrives to kill Grendel. Beowulf battles Grendel and he wins.
