Hiding to Survive is a book of real life stories about fourteen men and women that were rescued as children from one of the most gruesome events in our history, the Holocaust. This book was written by Maxine B. Rosenberg, a full time author. She possesses a Master of Science degree and writes photographic essays about children, including Brothers and Sisters; Being Adopted; and Making a New Home in America. She wrote about these interviews to illustrate how painful it was for these children, including Aviva Blumberg and Kurt Dattner, to lose the only life they had ever known. During the 1940s, a brutal massacre, known as the Holocaust, was led by German chancellor Adolf Hitler, killing over 6 million Jews. While Germany was going through a �depression,� in a book, Mein Kampf (My Struggle), �Hitler had described the Jews as Germany�s greatest enemy and said they had to be eliminated.� Throughout the early 1940s there was total discrimination against Jews.
