“Quiubo, ¿cómo le va?” “Yo, what’s up?” They are two different languages and colloquialisms. They are two different cultures, and two different places in the world. Two nations have been dwellings to me for comparable amounts of time—Colombia for eight years, and the United States for five years. My experiences in Colombia and in the United States have proved to be quite dissimilar. Language is not the only factor; many aspects including sports, food, and school can portray the divergence between the two cultures I have been subjected to.
In Colombia, as well as the rest of South America, there exists a passion for soccer. Since I was four, I started playing soccer; whether it was in the street, in the backyard, or in preschool, every child eagerly participated in this invigorating activity.
